Taxonomy

Protoselene was named by Matthew (1897).

It was assigned to Mioclaenidae by Matthew (1897), Hay (1902), McKenna and Bell (1997), Archibald (1998); to Pleuraspidotheriinae by Zack et al. (2005); and to Hyopsodontidae by Williamson and Weil (2011).

Synonyms

Dracoclaenus was named by Gazin (1939).

It was synonymized subjectively with Protoselene by Van Valen (1971), Van Valen (1978), Robison (1986), Williamson and Lucas (1993), Williamson (1996).
