Stephanorhinus was named by Kretzoi (1942). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Dicerorhinina by Prothero and Schoch (1989) and Cerdeno (1992); to Rhinocerotidae by Carroll (1988) and Capasso Barbato and Gliozzi (1995); to Dicerorhinini by Symeonidis et al. (2006); and to Rhinocerotini by Antoine and Saraç (2005) and Deng et al. (2011).
