Microtypus eocenus was named by Belokobylskij and Zaldívar-Riverón (2021). Its type specimen is PIN 5820/1, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Rovno amber (PIN collection 5820), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Ukraine.
