Bassariscus antiquus

Taxonomy
Bassariscus antiquus was named by Matthew and Cook (1909). Its type specimen is AMNH 13869, a mandible (left mandible with m1-m2 and roots of p4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 23 Miles South of Agate, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Olcott Formation of Nebraska.

It was recombined as Probassariscus antiquus by Merriam (1911), Merriam (1916), Matthew (1924), Baskin (1989) and Voorhies (1990).
