Leptarctus primus

Taxonomy
Leptarctus primus was named by Leidy (1856) [also said to be 1857]. It is the type species of Leptarctus.

Synonyms
  • Hypsoparia timmi was named by Lim and Martin (2002). Its type specimen is BHI 1578, a skull (skull and an associated jaw with incomplete dentition), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mission Roadside Site, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Valentine Formation of South Dakota.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Leptarctus primus by Korth and Baskin (2009).
  • Hypsoparia bozemanensis was named by Dorr (1954). Its type specimen is CMNH 9674, a partial skeleton (incomplete skull lacking incisors and an associated jaw with dentition lacking left i3 and right ramus lacking posterior portion of m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Anceney, which is in a Barstovian channel sandstone in the Madison Valley Formation of Montana. It is the type species of Hypsoparia.

    It was recombined as Leptarctus bozemanensis by Voorhies (1990); it was synonymized subjectively with Leptarctus primus by Webb (1969), Sutton (1977) and Korth and Baskin (2009).
