Taxonomy
Pseudemys was named by Gray (1856) [see Webb (1995) for date of publication in 1856 and not 1855]. It is extant. Its type is Testudo concinna.
It was synonymized subjectively with Chrysemys by Boulenger (1889).
It was assigned to Emydinae by Estes (1964), Bickham (1975), Holman (1985) and Seidel and Smith (1986); to Deirochelyinae by Parham et al. (2008) and van Dijk et al. (2014); and to Emydidae by Cope (1875), Hay (1930), Holman et al. (1990), Frank and Ramus (1996), Vlachos (2018) and Weems (2023).
