Taxonomy
Pilophyllum was named by Wedekind (1927). Its type is Pilophyllum keyserlingi.

It was assigned to Endophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Kodonophyllidae by Kaljo (1958); to Kyphophyllidae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
