Taxonomy
Epismilia was named by Fromentel (1861) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar K l Sepkoski's reference number: 828]. It is the type genus of Epismiliidae.

It was assigned to Epismiliidae by Alloiteau (1952); to Actinacididae by Geyer (1955); to Zardinophyllidae by Beauvais (1986); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
