Taxonomy

Liometopum was named by Mayr (1861). It is extant.

It was assigned to Formicidae by Scudder (1877) and Carpenter (1992); to Dolichoderini by Bolton (2003); to Tapinomini by Emery (1913) and Bolton (2012); and to Dolichoderinae by Hong and Wang (1985), Shattuck (1994) and Dlussky et al. (2015).

Synonyms

Poneropsis was named by Heer (1867).

It was synonymized subjectively with Liometopum by Dlussky and Putyatina (2014).

It was assigned to Formicidae by Carpenter (1992); to Ponerini by Bolton (2003); and to Ponerinae by Bolton (2012).
Poneropsis brunascens was named by Heer (1867). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Radoboj (unspecified or Heer coll), which is in a Sarmatian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in Croatia.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Dlussky and Putyatina (2014).
Shanwangella was named by Zhang (1989). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Camponotus by Hong and Wu (2000) and Bolton (2012); it was synonymized subjectively with Liometopum by Boudinot et al. (2024).

It was assigned to Formicidae by Zhang (1989); and to Dolichoderinae by Perfilieva (2022).
