Taxonomy

Cimbex was named by Olivier (1790). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cimbicidae, Cimbicinae.

It was assigned to Hymenoptera by Olivier (1790), Latreille (1796); to Cimbicides by Cockerell (1908); to Cimbicidae by Zhang (1989), Carpenter (1992); and to Cimbicinae by Taeger et al. (2010), Archibald and Rasnitsyn (2023).

Synonyms

Clavellarius was named by Olivier (1789) [spelled Clavellarius by Olivier and Clavellaria by Lamarck 1801 (suppressed by the ICZN)]. It is extant.

It was corrected as Clavellaria by Zhang (1989); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Cimbex by International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (1954), Nel (2004), Taeger et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Hymenoptera by Olivier (1789); and to Cimbicidae by Zhang (1989).
