Taxonomy
Cardium (Trigoniocardium) protoaliculum was named by Richards (1953) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is FGS I-7572, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is FGS L-93 - Gulf Hammock [Inglis Limestone], which is in a Priabonian marine limestone in the Inglis Limestone Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Trigoniocardia (Americardia) protoaliculum by Palmer and Brann (1965).
