Taxonomy
Probittacus avitus was named by Martynov (1927). It is an impression. Its type locality is Galkino, which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian lacustrine - large siltstone in the Karabastau Formation of Kazakhstan. It is the type species of Probittacus.
