Taxonomy
Hylobates funereus was named by Geoffroy (1850). It is extant.

It was recombined as Hylobates cinereus funereus by Kloss (1929); it was recombined as Hylobates moloch funereus by Chasen and Kloss (1931) and Davis (1958).
