Taxonomy
Clenia was named by Ameghino (1904). Its type is Clenia minuscula.

It was replaced with Clenialites by Ameghino (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Microbiotherium by Marshall (1982).

It was assigned to Microbiotheriidae by Ameghino (1904), Goin et al. (2010) and Goin and Abello (2013).
