Taxonomy
Aseanpithecus myanmarensis was named by Jaeger et al. (2019). Its type specimen is NMMP 93, a maxilla (left maxilla with C-M3, lacking M1 and part of P4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pk2, Pondaung Sandstone, which is in a Bartonian terrestrial sandstone/siliciclastic in the Pondaung Formation of Myanmar. It is the type species of Aseanpithecus.
