It was assigned to Amblyctonidae by Cope (1880) and Cope (1880); to Palaeonictidae by Scott (1892); to Ambloctonidae by Hay (1902); to Oxyaenidae by De Blainville (1842), Sinclair and Jepsen (1929) and Gunnell (1998); and to Palaeonictinae by Van Valen (1967) and Chester et al. (2010).
