Taxonomy

Eohyrax was named by Ameghino (1901). Its type is Eohyrax rusticus.

It was assigned to Archaeohyracidae by Ameghino (1901), Simpson (1967), Carroll (1988), Reguero and Prevosti (2010).

E. brachyodus, E. isotemnoides, E. platyodus, E. praerusticus, E. rusticus (type species)

Synonyms

Eohyrax brachyodus was named by Ameghino (1902). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mustersan of Patagonia, which is in a Mustersan terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

It was considered a nomen vanum by Simpson (1967).
Eohyrax platyodus was named by Ameghino (1904) [The type is a lectotype, as designated by Simpson (1967)]. Its type specimen is MACN A10908e, left m1, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mustersan of Patagonia, which is in a Mustersan terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Hitz et al. (2000).
