Type specimens:
- Caryophyllia mediavia: Its type locality is USGS 10527 Colorado River, which is in a Danian coastal claystone in the Wills Point Formation of Texas
- Caryophyllia agatdalensis: Its type locality is Agatdalen, oyster-ammonite conglomerate, Nugssuaq, West Greenland, which is in a Danian coastal conglomerate in Greenland.
- Caryophyllia dumblei: Its type locality is USGS 11948 Mexia, which is in a Danian coastal sandstone in the Kincaid Formation of Texas.
