Taxonomy

Pseudozygopleura was named by Knight (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1130]. It is the type genus of Pseudozygopleurinae.

It was reranked as Palaeostylus (Pseudozygopleura) by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight (1930); to Palaeostylus by Knight et al. (1960); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudozygopleuridae by Nützel (1998), Bouchet et al. (2005), Nützel and Ketwetsuriya (2016).

Synonyms

Loxonema plebium was named by Herrick (1887) [1887. Loxonema sp.; L. plebium (n. sp.) given in explanation of plate.].

It was recombined as Zygopleura plebiea by Girty (1915); it was considered a nomen nudum by Knight (1930).
Pseudozygopleura (Pyrgozyga) was named by Knight (1930).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeostylus by Knight (1932); it was synonymized subjectively with Pseudozygopleura by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Pseudozygopleura by Knight (1930), Hoare and Sturgeon (1981).
