Locustopsoidea was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Caelifera by Sharov (1968), Whalley (1985) and Martins-Neto (2003); to Acrididea by Gorochov (2005) and Gorochov et al. (2006); and to Acridomorpha by Eades et al. (2012).
