Taxonomy
Euphemites was named by Warthin (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras Tr Indu-l Sepkoski's reference number: 362,797]. Its type is Bellerophon urii. It is the type genus of Euphemitidae.
It was assigned to Bellerophontidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); to Euphemitidae by Horný (1963), Mazaev (2015) and Nützel and Ketwetsuriya (2016); and to Euphemitinae by Knight (1956), Knight et al. (1960), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Ketwetsuriya et al. (2020).
It was assigned to Bellerophontidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); to Euphemitidae by Horný (1963), Mazaev (2015) and Nützel and Ketwetsuriya (2016); and to Euphemitinae by Knight (1956), Knight et al.
