It was assigned to Ursida by Tedford (1976); to Caniformia by Fay (1985); to Pinnipedia by Mitchell (1961), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Mitchell (1966), Dubrovo (1984), Riedman (1990); to Carnivora by Carroll (1988), Barnes et al. (2006); and to Pinnipedia by Burns and Fay (1970), Fulton and Strobeck (2010).
