Taxonomy
Gastrochaena was named by Spengler (1783) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath R Sepkoski's reference number: 93]. It is extant. Its type is Gastrochaena cuneiformis.

It was assigned to Myoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gastrochaenidae by Vokes (1980), Ward and Blackwelder (1987), Freneix et al. (1988), Lamprell and Healy (1998) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
