Aplosmilia was named by D'Orbigny (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-l K Sant-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. Its type is Lobophyllia semisulcata. It is the type genus of Aplosmiliidae.
It was assigned to Aplosmiliinae by Geyer (1955); to Rhipidogyridae by Roniewicz (1976); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Rhipidogyrinae by Pandey and Fürsich (2003); and to Aplosmiliidae by Lathuilière (2024).
