Taxonomy
Aeshnidae was named by Leach (1815). It is extant. Its type is Aeshna. It was considered monophyletic by Jarzembowski (1988).
It was assigned to Odonata by Zhang (1989); to Aeshnoidea by Jarzembowski (1988), Nel and Martínez-Delclòs (1993) and Bechly (2007); and to Anisoptera by Tillyard (1918), Hong (1982), Carpenter (1992) and Petrulevičius et al. (2010).
