Squalodon vocontiorum was named by Delfortrie (1874) [Kelllogg (1923) states that the type specimen was formerly in the private collection of Dr. E. Delfortrie at Bordeaux, France.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Taulignan, which is in a Burdigalian marine horizon in France.
