It was synonymized subjectively with Eutheria by Gadow (1898); it was synonymized subjectively with Monodelphia by Hay (1930); it was reranked as the order Placentalia by Olson (1966).

It was assigned to Theria by Rowe (1988); to Mammalia by Owen (1837), Bonaparte (1850), Olson (1966), Seiffert and Simons (2000); to Theria by McKenna and Bell (1997), Shoshani and Tassy (2005); to Eutheria by Luo et al.
